Alistair Johnson began racing in 1977 at Sydney's very first BMX Track - Ryde Eastwood BMX Club. He Quickly began winning Club and interstate competitions and gained a name as one of the top professionals racing in the earliest days of Australian BMX.

Nicknamed "The Professor", he would use his success to promote the sport of BMX across the country, running some of the earliest coaching clinics, and appearing on TV and in multiple magazines both here and overseas. Alistair was snapped up by Australian Manufacturer Quicksilver to become a Full Factory Team member and would promote the brand throughout his career.

In 1981 Alistair would place 3rd in the National Titles, and also win the NSW State titles. It was at this time that he also took on administrative roles at Club level and the following year he became involved with the New South Wales BMX Association as a publicity officer.

In 1982 he would continue running his training camps, this time in Tasmania and NSW whilst still being competitive at a National and State level. Alistair finally retired from the sport following the Australian Titles in 1983.

Alistair is considered one of the top early pioneers of the sport of BMX in Australia, and still maintains a strong interest in preserving the history of BMX from these formative years through his active involvement in online forums and historical groups.
